The general weight limit for vessels using the pontoon is 15 tonnes. However, this is weather-dependent; slightly heavier vessels may use the pontoon on very calm days, but this is done entirely at the skipper’s own risk.

Yes, but mooring fees apply. Please note that the hammerhead (the end of the pontoon) is a priority area for commercial licence holders for pick-ups and drop-offs. Leisure vessels may use this space, but must not be left unattended at any time. You must be on hand to move your vessel immediately if a commercial operator requires access.

At Cairndow, we proudly run a 100% honesty policy. All payments are fully digital to keep things simple for our community. Please scan the payment QR code on the pontoon signage or visit our website to pay your fee. If your signal drops or the digital system fails, you can easily pay via direct bank transfer (details are provided on the tariff sign and payment webpage).

We currently have one visitor mooring in place. We plan to increase these to at least four by the start of the 2027 season, and updates will be available here thereafter.

Presently there is not, but this is something we are considering. We will announce it on our website in due course.

No. The Cairndow pontoon is a basic community mooring facility. We do not offer electricity, fuel, fresh water, or pump-out services. The nearest dedicated marine services, including fuel and water, are located further down Loch Fyne at Portavadie Marina (petrol/diesel) and Tarbert Harbour (diesel only). Please ensure your vessel is fully provisioned before arriving.

Yes. For the safety of our users, the protection of vessels, and the prevention of anti-social behaviour, 24-hour CCTV is in operation across the pontoon and slipway.

The pontoon itself is accessible, but please note that wheelchair users will likely require support to arrive and leave, as there is a steep incline leading up from the pontoon to the main road.

You may only launch unpowered craft, such as kayaks and canoes. For safety and insurance reasons, the launching of motorised vessels, jet skis, and waterskis is strictly prohibited.

No. The parking bay next to the pontoon is strictly for emergency vehicle access only.

We know this is frustrating, but our hands are completely tied by our public liability insurance. Our current policy strictly classifies swimming, diving, and jumping from the pontoon as excluded activities. Permitting them would void our insurance and put the Association at severe financial risk.

While not legally mandatory, the pontoon can be slippery, and the water is deep and cold. We strongly advise all users, especially children, to wear a lifejacket or buoyancy aid. A life ring is located on the pontoon for emergency use only.

The pontoon remains in the water, but you should absolutely not use it during severe weather, high winds, or frosty conditions. The decking becomes extremely dangerous when icy. You use the facility entirely at your own risk.

No, there are zero public bins on site. Please help us respect our local environment and keep Cairndow beautiful by taking all your litter home with you.

There are no public toilets at the pontoon. There are toilets at the Stagecoach Inn, but these are strictly for customers only during their normal opening hours.

Yes, Cairndow has several excellent local options.

The bus stop is located 100m to the north of layby/ war memorial (see the Cairndow Map). Regular local services depart from here for access to  Fyne Ales, Fyne Den, Loch Fyne Oyster Bar, The Tree Shop, and Here We Are. Disembark at the Oyster Bar Bus Stop.
